A reader of the website 9to5Mac has made an interesting concept image of how the new Macbook Pro can look with an OLED touch panel. You can see it at the top of this post.

As you can see, the area where the fn-keys normally reside have been outright replaced by an OLED touch panel. The touch panel displays an esc button, f1-f12 buttons with alternate controls, and a power button. The capacitive touch panel’s buttons will change contextually based on the current app or scenario. That means that, for example, you could run an app like Final Cut Pro X, with the OLED touch panel displaying commonly-used shortcuts related to video editing.

I really like the idea that the touch panel changes depending on which app you use. For example getting all the Final Cut Pro X functions in the OLED key row when using that app. That is brilliant.

Another thing I really like with this Macbook Pro if true, is the really huge TouchPad that you can see in the comparison image below.

Personally I think that Apple is moving closer and closer to iOS and the iPad with OS X and the Macbooks, and a way to use Touch on Macs without adding a touch display to the Mac is using the excellent Touch Pad. So I'm sure we will see more features for that, and I think new OLED panels also is a step in that way.
