According to the very reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo will Apple stop the development of the Macbook Air after releasing the 13-inch Macbook. The Macbook Air will become the cheaper entry level alternative. At least for a while longer until it vanish as an alternative altogether.

"It will definitely have more than one USB-C port"
But yes, the new 12-inch MacBook is an amazing replacement, and the coming 13-inch will be a great option for those who wants a tiny bit bigger display. And the 13-inch model will definitely get more than one USB-C port, longer battery life, better FaceTime camera and some other things the smaller 12-inch doesn't have. I'm sure of that.
