Mecool KM9 Pro Android TV Box Review

The Mecool KM9 Pro Android TV Box was a pleasant surprise. Great performance, useful features and an excellent UI.

The Quad Core Amlogic S905X2 CPU had more performance than I personally needed, and with the 4GB of RAM on top of that, made this a beast for watching movies and TV shows with. I don't game so I don't know how good it is for that, but my gut tells me that it's great for that too. I am not much into benchmarks and other stats, I am more for user experience, and the Mecool KM9 Pro Android TV Box can handle everything I thorough at it. YouTube 4K videos, HDR videos, 1080p videos with very high bitrates from my Plex Media Server it can play with ease.

It also was really nice that this Android TV Box were Google Certified. That means that is supports Google Voice Search directly from the built-in microphone on the remote, it supports Google Play, Google Movies, Google Music and has Google Chromecast built-in right into the Box! That means that you don't need to buy a Google Chromecast separately. You only need the Mecool KM9 Android TV Box. So you get both for the same price. Only that makes this Box worth every money you pay for it.

The UI is the official Android TV UI, so if you have seen and yes it on Smart TV's like Philips TV's, then you know how it looks and feel. I think the UI works great for it's purpose, watching movies and TV shows. You can easily control everything with the Remote that comes in the package. It's a great remote that you easily pair with the box. It has great range so you can easily use it from the sofa or bed.

It was also cool that it comes with the latest Android version installed, Android 9.0 Pie.

The only negative with the Mecool KM9 Pro Android TV Box is that it doesn't support Netflix. It is not certified for Netflix sadly. You can install a specific version of the mobile Netflix app to get it going, but then it only works with SD resolution and not HD. And the remote is not supported with such app, so you have to use a keyboard or mouse.

That is a huge drawback if you have a Netflix account that you want to use with this box. Fortunately for me, I am a happy Plex user instead. I like to have my own server and media.
