How to Install and Use Project: Title - a KOReader UI Plugin

This guide provides comprehensive instructions on how to install and utilize the Project: Title UI plugin for KOReader.

Introduction to Project: Title

Project: Title is a specialized UI plugin designed to provide KOReader with an interface that rivals commercial eReaders. It enhances the user experience by adding a speedy title bar, a fresh book listing with variable-length progress bars, and an informative footer. It is compatible with Kobo, jailbroken Kindle, Android, and Pocketbook devices.

Part 1: Installation Guide

To ensure a successful installation, you must follow these mandatory steps exactly in order:

  1. Prepare your device: Before connecting to a computer, open KOReader on your device, navigate to the wrench icon (More tools) > Plugin management, and disable (uncheck) “Cover browser”.

  2. Restart KOReader: Tap “Restart Now” to apply the change.

  3. Download the plugin: Obtain the latest version of Project: Title from the official releases page, ensuring it matches your current KOReader version.

  4. Connect your device: Plug your eReader into your computer via USB. Note that Kindle users must exit KOReader to the standard Amazon UI to enable the USB connection.

  5. Locate the installation folder: Find the koreader folder on your device. Common paths include:

 Kobo: /.adds/koreader/

 Kindle: /koreader/

Android: koreader at the root of onboard storage.

  1. Copy the plugin files: Unzip the downloaded archive and copy the projecttitle.koplugin folder into the [koreader]/plugins/ directory on your device.

  2. Manual Font/Icon Setup (For versions older than 3.5): If you are using an older version, you must manually copy the fonts and icons folders from within the plugin folder to the root [koreader]/ folder.

  3. Enable the plugin: Eject your device, restart KOReader, go back to Plugin management, and enable (check) “Project Title”.

Part 2: Configuring Calibre Page Counts

To use the plugin’s signature book-sized progress bars, you must configure Calibre to provide page count data:

Install the Plugin: In Calibre, go to Preferences > Plugins > Get New Plugins and install Count Pages by Grant Drake.

Create a Custom Column: Go to Preferences > Interface > Add your own columns. Click the + button and enter these exact values (case sensitive):

 Lookup name: pages

 Column heading: Pages

 Column type: Integers

 Formatting: {0:,d}

Configure the “Count Pages” Plugin: Go to Preferences > Plugins > Customize plugin and set “#pages (Pages)” as the Page count Custom column.

Scan and Sync: Right-click your books, select “Count Pages” to update them, and then send them to your device.

Alternate Filename Method: If progress bars do not appear, you can add P({#pages}) to the end of your “Save template” in Calibre’s “Sending Books to Device” settings to include the page count directly in the filename.

Part 3: Using Project: Title

Once installed, you can navigate and customize the new interface as follows:

Initial Scanning: The first time you use the plugin, it will be slow while it scans your library. It is strongly recommended to tap the menu icon (top-right) and select Extract and cache book information while the device is charging to finish this process.

Accessing Settings: Tap the filing cabinet icon in the top menu, then select “Settings” and the sub-menu for Project Title to adjust items per page and footer options.

 Title Bar Functions:

House icon: Tap to return Home; Long-press for the sub-folder navigation tree.

Heart icon: Tap for Favorites; Long-press for Folder Shortcuts.

Origami Bird: Tap for the top UI drawer; Long-press to switch between File Browser and Library Mode (a flat view of all books).

Gestures: You can map gestures like Pinch to increase items per page and Spread to decrease them (making covers larger).

Folder Covers: You can set custom folder covers by placing an image named .folder.jpg or .folder.png inside a directory.
