I've actually done the same on my blog. I think it's enough to have to moderate comments on social media. I had too many trolls commenting on this blog. And to be honest, I don't think there is any benefit to have comments on the website itself. I mean I share all my posts on Google+, Facebook page, Twitter, Pinterest, Flipboard and more. I really think the discussions can be on those places instead.
Reuters.com is ending user comments on news stories. Much of the well-informed and articulate discussion around news, as well as criticism or praise for stories, has moved to social media and online forums. Those communities offer vibrant conversation and, importantly, are self-policed by participants to keep on the fringes those who would abuse the privilege of commenting
