In the video below you can see how to edit video on an iPhone (iPhone XS Max) connected to a 27-inch monitor (HP 27es), using the video editing app Lumafusion, Apple lightning to HDMI connector, and Apple Magic Keyboard.
This works great, and it fills up the complete display except for some black bars at top and bottom. Lumafusion has a lot of keyboard shortcuts so you can do a lot without even touching the iPhone itself. And when you need to, it's like using an iPad with a keyboard. No difference.
I am very happy with this workflow. It is so easy to edit video like this. And the iPhone XS Max can easily handle 4K video in Lumafusion.
