How to turn on Live Text and use it on your iPhone and iPad running iOS 15

In the video below you can watch a tutorial on how to activate Apple’s Live Text feature in iOS 15.1 (and iPadOS 15.1). It works with both iPhone and iPad. I show how to turn on Live Text and how to use it on an iPhone 13 Pro Max.

With iOS 15 and above, you can use Live Text to copy and share text directly from the camera or within photos, translate languages, make a call, and more. Live Text recognises useful information within your photos and images you have downloaded, so you can make a call, send an email, or look up directions with just a tap on the highlighted text in a photo or image. You can also use Live Text directly in the Camera app. Just point your iPhone or iPad camera at a photo or image with text, then tap the indicator icon.

The feature is quite well hidden in the iOS settings. So here are the steps to activate it:
  1. Open Settings app
  2. Go into General
  3. Go into Language and Region
  4. Scroll down to the bottom and activate Live Text
  5. Done
After that you can start using Live Text directly in the camera or with images and photos you already have.
