In this tutorial I show you how to install KOReader on the brand new Penstar eNote Pro M10c that has a 10.3-inch Kaleido 3 color e-ink touch display. It’s an excellent note taker, for writing and drawing and now also for reading with KOReader. After I have installed KOReader the actual tutorial is finished but you can continue watch the video if you want to also see me setup KOReader as I want it.

Okay, so in this video I will show you how you can install Koreader on the Pen Star. In Node Pro, it's a brand new note taker from Pen Star. It has circulated of free display and also touch display. Usually Pen star tablets doesn't have the touch capability. It has only physical buttons, but this pen store has both physical buttons and a touch display, so it will be interesting to see how good KOReader will run on this, because it's an excellent note taker, so maybe it could be excellent for reading ebooks in Koreader too.
So let's go to my scene cam. Here we have the pen star with the stylus here. So let's open up the cover. So we go to the home screen of it. Like.
So here we have the home screen of the Panther Emote Pro, and as you can see, it's in color. And the Panther doesn't have a Google Play Store. And I think that is uh, the reason for that is that it doesn't have any refresh modes either. It has a very optimized refresh mode for having an excellent ghosting, auto ghosting removal, so it could be quite slow or laggy when using a lot of different apps.
So the recommendation for using this is to have it for writing, reading and drawing and nothing else is my recommendation. It's an excellent tablet for that. So now I will install KOReader on it to see if it's great for reading. So to continue we need to open a web browser and go to a KOreader GitHub page.
Let's go to Google to search for the core reader GitHub page. We have KOReader GitHub page search. Of course there because I have done it before. Here we can go to the GitHub page of KOreader. Here we have the GitHub page. And as you see here it's a bit slow to do web browsing and so on.
It's completely fine. Still nothing to worry about, but it's not as smooth as um, uh, other devices like the Boox Palma or a Bigme device, for example. But this is for info taking and reading mainly so. But we go down here to see.
Different Front stuff about KOReader as usually.
And, uh. We need to go up again to have the link to downloads. We see the download links here as you see there. So click on download link. To go to the download page for co reader like so.
And here you see the Kaleido 3 display I think it's gorgeous looking on the pencil you know pro amazing look as you see it looks awesome. The colors because it doesn't have any ghosting whatsoever because it has an excellent refresh rate refresh mode on this built in. So you see.
We go down to the download files somewhere.
Uh, we see all the new stuff they have made for this release. And down here we have the download files. And here we should use an Android release. And as you see, Arm64 Android usually it is that version.
Hopefully this device can run that. And I'm 99% sure that this is the right version for this tablet. So we download that. Uh, let's just start to download. Download anyway.
It could be harmful. It always had one notification for that, but choose download anyway. After that, open the file, install it. And now open it. If you get any warnings there, just install it anyway. Now you need to allow it to use the file system KOreader crash.
That is uh unusual. Hopefully, hopefully that is not. Hopefully that will not be the case here. Hmm.
Let's go to the downloaded files again.
Hmm. Interesting. So let's go to download files. We have code reader here. Let's try to install it again. Uh. Package installer. Always. Update.
Open. Hello. Like so. Now it works. Uh, I was a bit worried there, but now it worked. So now we have allowed code reader to use the storage. So now we can go back to home page and see if we can find the core reader up here.
Yes. It's installed. Here you see the system apps that are installed on your penstar enote pro. And here we have the install apps by you. So this is the apps I have installed.
So now I start koreader. Like so book info cache updated. Here we have co reader started and we have the the Quick Start guide that is available when you have just installed KOReader.
I haven't done any settings yet. Uh, by the way, by that I will do a lot of settings in the end of this video, but it will be a very long video because of that. So I will do the tutorial first, and then if you want to see all my different settings, I do in Korea. You can hang. Hang out and see me doing that in this video. Uh, but, uh uh, usually you just need to see the first part of this video, but I will install different stuff later in the customization and so on.
So now we go to the library and here we have nothing and no books whatsoever. So now we start by browsing for my, um, folder with books. Uh, let's see page one here. We have a book folder there. If I long press on that I can set that to my home folder.
So I set that as a home folder. Set as home. Now if I click on home here we will find different books and different libraries. These are the libraries that was installed on this pen star tablet when I got it, so I can find different books in, for example, adventure and fantasy. Here I can find different books. As you see, these are public domain books.
Here are a few books that I have installed. So, uh, we can do. Uh, okay, maybe this is not the beautiful, um, UI you want.
So you can go up here and click in the mint sorry menu up here and go to display mode. We can choose to have, uh, mosaic with cover images instead, like, so uh, we can set that mode everywhere, like so for example, now we will have some larger photos of the books, as you see.
Uh, I will probably remove these books later on because they're taking up space here in Corydon because I want to have my books. Uh, not folders. These are folders. I want to have the books itself. You should always add books in one folder.
Hippo books in one folder, because then you see the covers. You should not have books in different folders like this. For example, if I open this, I need to open it to see the covers there. So basically you should have the books in one folder is my recommendation.
So if I now open this book I'm reading at the moment, I can't think it yet because I haven't installed the read as the plugin, but I will do that too.
But here is the standard text that opens. You see, it's in color. And uh, this works great for reading so far as you see here. And I usually have another status bar or something here and another font and everything here, but I will fix that later on. So now we have actually already installed KOReader. That is how easy it is. So if you just do this and doesn't need to do any more customizations and settings, you can just start reading now because that is how easy it is.
But now I will quit Corredor and install two plugins, but I will not set them up in this video. But I want to install them and that is the Readest plugin to be able to sync with all my devices co reader devices with my iPhone and iPad other devices and so on.
The Readest and KOReader.
So all my reading is ensued between all my devices. So that is one of the plugins I will install. The other plugin is the File drives File browser, the next new file browser plugin. Because with that plugin you can, uh, upload and download files from a web browser or a computer to your devices. It's an excellent plugin. I have a video on how to install it, but, uh, I quit this now and go into my file browser of choice.
Uh, yes, File Explorer. And here we have some downloads we see. I will install the Atkinson type legible font to Atkinson hypothermia. Next font. It's cold. So first we install that by non pressing on this and tap copy.
Now I go into the co reader folder. We have co reader somewhere there.
We go into the co reader folder. And now we should find the font folder. If you don't have a font folder you need to set that up. Uh, you don't have a folder for fonts yet. So now I need to do a fonts folder. We name it fonts.
Like so. Now I have a fonts folder, as you see. Uh, we need also a plugin folder and we have that there. But we don't have a fonts folder where I created it. Now I can paste at Amazon hyper legible next. So now I have a font installed in Code Reader. Now we go back to my download folder and choose the.
Readers plugin like so. I have already downloaded the reader's coded plugin and also the file browser plus go read plugin.
These two need to be extracted from the zip files and they should be named like this as you see the folders. Uh, so these two folders will be copied to the plugins folder.
So we copy it like so we go into the corridor folder. We go into the plugins folder and we paste that there. So now we have copy that. But to be able to use these plugins and fonts we need to restore Core reader. So I will go up here on the pen store and we go here and we go into recent tasks and we close everything here.
To clean up we have no apps started now. So now if I start co-leader. By the way, we will set code, read it to the home page by ad smarter one, 2 or 3. I don't know which that one. Let's say smart for one. Now let's see the home page now.
That was probably wrong. So we do that again. Smart bar two. We go to homepage. Hmm.
Maybe I should just click here and choose it.
Instead. We choose co-leader. Like so. Yes, we need to remove something. We can remove the cloud drives and we set career instead. Like so. Now if we go to homepage, we see Covid there, there. So now I install the two plugins I want and the font I want. So now we can open corridor again.
And here we now will see that the plugins are correctly installed. We see the reader sink here. So now I just need to log in to my account. By the way I can do that already because I want to do that.
So I just click login. And here we should type the login procedure. So I will do that. You log in with your account that you have created for readers.
Please be sure to not log in with Google or Apple, because then you can't log in on a Inc. device so you can't log in on call reader if you do that, so be sure to not.
Log in with code with Google or Apple. You should have a real password for this. Like.
So now I am logged in, as we can see here. If we go up again into the plugin, we go to read a sync.
We see that I am logged in as you see. So now we should first, before you set out to sync book configs you need to do a manual push or pull. So if we open this book that I'm reading at the moment, we should go up here into the settings and. Go and do a manual pull to get the right place in the book.
Pull to pull the the latest reading progress from another device. But. You see now it has zoomed where I am in this book. That is how easy it is. Beautifully.
So now we after that we have done that. You need to go to read this again and set that after sync config book like so.
So that was how easy it is. We can do a bookmark there you see. So now we have done that we can go up and do some configs. By the way. Now actually the tutorial is over because you have seen how to install KOReader on a Penstar enote Pro. Now if you want, you can follow my setup of KOReader so I get it, how I want it, and so on.
So first I choose font.
Here we should find on the first page Atkinson hyper legible as you see here. I set that as my preferred font and I set it as default. By long pressing you can set every setting you do in corridor as default. Default like so. By the way we can see the font settings here too. Yes.
Like so we have font family fonts. we see. Yes. That's right. So now we have set the font. Now we want to do some style. Customizations. We see style tweaks here.
We go up to enable page and margins. Ignore publisher margins. Uh. We should. Ignore all horizontal margins. To be able to set the margins at the sides.
But that is the only thing I want to have set here, because I want to have the other modules as the. The author wants it. So that's on the vertical modules. Should be like this. Page break and blank pages.
Nothing there to set. We are done. Here.
We go to text text alignment I want to justify most text. And I set that as default. Center headings. And that is default. And declaration.
You don't have anything in hyphenation and literature's. Font size and families. Line hates. Uh. We ignore publisher line as default.
Because then you can have your own line. Hates. Like so. Now we go to paragraphs.
I want to turn off no intimidation on first paragraph line because I don't like that. And I said that as default. Uh, spaces between paragraphs I want to have on and have that as default.
You see, down below that I have the space between the paragraphs. Now. Now we have set that up. Miscellaneous. Nothing there. Nope. Nothing. There we go to the fonts again.
We have that set up already.
Typography rules. Yes. Here we have something to set up. Respect. Embedded language tags should be on hyphenation. Enable hyphenation if it's preferable and if the author wants it. So this is correct. You don't need to do anything if you have. If you have this on. Uh page overlap.
Nothing. Nothing nothing. This is the setup to do here. Now we can wait before, uh, Corredor has set everything up. You see this icon here? It's working now. It's done there. Uh, now, I usually go down here before I fix the status bar to set everything up as I want. Like.
So. Um, first the cogwheel. By the way, I can show you again.
You need to click down here somewhere. I clicked to near the status bar. You have to go up a bit to have the menu open. So the cogwheel here of embedded style on embedded fonts. Uh, I usually have off, but I have that in the settings.
I forgot about that. But you can have both only if you want image scaling. I usually do best. It's depending on the device you have, if it's fast and so. So maybe I need to have fast on instead of best on this I don't know. We will see that later on uh, after using it. So this is what I want here. And here we set up the contrast. I always use contrast 15 and I want that as default.
So I said it as default because I want to have excellent contrast when reading.
So I usually set 15 here. So we have one best we have from heading out to font weight I usually it's depending on the the size of the display, but I usually have it as 75. Uh with Atkinson hyper legible font.
You can set it how you want it. Of course, maybe that is too much on this, so maybe I will set it as 50 instead. Like so. Uh, maybe I'll change that later on set as default, because that will be used on all books then. Uh, now we can go to this setting here. I usually set the font as I want Not very large because I love to read with large font.
Uh, so maybe even this size of the font? Yes, I know I'm strange, but I have reading glasses usually, and if I set the font really big, I usually don't need to have the glasses on when reading. And I love that because then I don't need my reading glasses.
So that's why I said that word spacing medium word expansion.
Non. Um, on some devices I have some here, but usually you can see that later on if you need that. So and here we go to render mode a web. Well sometimes I have broken sometimes with them depending on which device. Uh, so I will change this to book.
In this case, I think, and I set that as default. And line spacing I usually have 110, but I think that will be too big on this device actually.
So maybe I will see first. Well, maybe I can have 108 at least.
I think that's great. So at this default some stuff I change during later on when I have read a lot and so on. Uh, so that is what I change in this setting. Then we have the margins. Uh, usually I have very small margins because I have smaller devices, but I think this could be great on this device.
I don't need to have smaller. So the default ten is, uh, what I want here. Uh top margins. Here I want to have a bit less margins, so maybe ten could be better.
Apply. And set as default for all books. Don't forget that. That's what I'm setting up then. Now I wait for this icon to work with all my settings.
So see how this went.
I think this will be quite good, actually. Hopefully. It takes a while. Well, um, now we go up to. Now we go up and do some other settings.
Uh, we go up here and do the rest of the settings. We have, uh, the network. I can show you that I now have the File Browser Plus plugin. It started already. That's strange. So I, Stop it. What?
Strange. I would like that later on. This doesn't look good. Something is wrong with that again. Uh, we will see that later on. We have the Wi-Fi settings. We have.
The Wi-Fi settings here. Actually, when we face off. Prompt action. When done with WiFi prompt, you can have both own, because that would be good to have. The screen cover image. I want to have a cover image.
Set image path. We can set the image path to have, uh. Pictures. For example, we can have long press tissues. That's the image path. Like so. I don't know why this is happening.
Okay. Mhm. A lot of stuff is, uh, not working as I want it.
I probably can't use this folder for my phone. Uh, covers. That's the only way I think this is not working.
Maybe I should just use, um. The code reader folder. Maybe. For this sim. Seem. We can try this. All done. If this doesn't work, I will do this later on.
Yes, it doesn't work. I don't know why at the moment. So. Strange. Well, I don't care at the moment. Then we will see that later on. Uh, screen DB auto. We have heating settings.
We have auto night mode. We don't do that here. Here you can. If this is a little three, you could turn off this to have don't have color rendering. So that means that it will be black and white in the corridor. I haven't seen any huge difference from doing that, but you can always try.
We have. Done the screen? Yes. We have tabs and gestures.
Here we have the gesture manager. We have top corner I usually have. The bottom left to.
The reader read as the plugin on page seven I think to push My position manually, I set that there. So now we have in.
Bottom left push read as progress on this device by a tab. And I also have a long press and corner. I said button left to pull the readers position. Page six. Long pressing is put like so.
So now we have done that. We have that there. Now we can check the page. Toning options are here with tabs with wives. Top sounds default. I want to have top. Bottom. And I usually set top bottom to.
Forward 100% and backward zero. Like so I'll set that as default.
So now I can tap anywhere on the display to go forward. Now you need to swipe to go back.
That is how I want it. Activate menu. I usually click that off because I don't want the bottom menu to be visible when I am at the top. Like so.
Navigation. Volume. Keys. Page turning. We can see if that works on this device. Here we have the volume keys. Seems to work. Yes it works. That's really nice. I love that. Okay.
So on document language. We have the storage settings left to do. We have the calibre.
We have expert height reading statistic progressing I don't need progressing now because I have the readers plugin instead. We have a lot of dictionaries to download, but that will be later on. So now we could do the status bar.
Let's start with the progress bar. I usually have it. Alongside items. As you see I have. That turned off.
Margins. Same as book margins. And. Show So initial marker on. On this. I usually have. We can have it at least eight like so.
Now we can. Go to the status bar items. Uh, let's turn on this. Configure items first.
We can turn on. All at once. Uh. Turn that off. Like so. Ethan. Font. In bold. Uh.
Maybe 16. Like so. And now we turn off. We turn off some items, but I don't want to have. I want to have pages left in book.
I want to have current time pages left in chapter. But the percentage. Then I don't need the. The rest. That's what I want to have. They are in another order that I want it. So I need to configure items. Arrange items.
So now I want to have current time. Down below like so I want to have pages left in chapter above that. Now I'm done I'll do this. And now I have I am done.
This is how I usually have my status bar. And maybe I should have a bigger margins from the bottom there. So let's start this. Configure items? Probably. No. Button.
Margin. We set that to. Four. Maybe. Maybe too much.
All that could be all right. Maybe five. Like so. That's much better. I think. So. So this is a bit like I wanted.
I have a few things that doesn't work as it should and so on. But this is what I want to show you in this video at least. So I hope you like this video and I hope you learn stuff by watching my tutorials. So you don't need to watch the late. The latest part of this video, but I wanted to show you how I set up my code reader and so on. Okay, bye.
